NHRC Takes Action Following Journalist Assault
Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has instructed the Director General of Police in Odisha to submit a report within a fortnight regarding the assault on a journalist in Nabarangpur district.
The journalist was reportedly attacked on August 29 by an individual with a drug addiction issue in the Papadahandi region, following a complaint lodged against him.
Currently, the journalist is hospitalized and in critical condition, as stated in a release from the NHRC.
The Commission noted that if the allegations in the news report are accurate, they highlight significant human rights violations. Consequently, a notice has been issued to the Odisha DGP, requesting a comprehensive report on the situation within two weeks.
The NHRC's report is anticipated to detail the progress of the investigation and the health status of the injured journalist.
This incident has incited considerable outrage among local journalists and residents, according to reports from various media outlets.
