If Kobbie Mainoo decides to leave Manchester United, both Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid would consider signing him, English media reports stated on Wednesday. The 20-year-old English footballer is reportedly unsettled under Ruben Amorim due to a lack of playing time and may receive multiple bids before the summer transfer window closes on September 1.
ALONGSIDE ALEJANDRO GARNACHO, MAINOO enjoyed an “untouchable” status under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. However, a lot has changed since the Dutchman was fired, and United is reportedly open to selling all of the old guard, including the youngster, as part of the ongoing overhaul.
According to reports, while most teams would like to get Mainoo on a loan deal with a buy clause, United is unlikely to accept one. They are willing to sell their star as they need funds. Midfielders are not available in abundance for United, and they will only part with Mainoo if there is an attractive offer on the table, the Daily Mail said in a report.

Amorim has asked a creative playmaker like captain Bruno Fernandes to play as a deep-lying playmaker but has not tried Mainoo in that position. Bruno is not very effective at tracking back, while the English star has proven that he has the speed and agility to do so when dispossessed. Amorim’s unwillingness to give Mainoo an opportunity in the role has left many fans and experts worried.
Since making his senior debut in January 2023, the United academy graduate has made a total of 72 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 7 goals. He had a breakout season in 2023-2024, featuring in 32 matches and scoring 5 goals, including a memorable goal in the FA Cup final victory against Manchester City. In the 2024-2025 season, he has played in 37 matches, scoring 2 goals and providing an assist.
