
Significant GST Revisions Ahead of Bihar Elections
Before the Bihar elections, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary's recommendations have been accepted. With Bihar rapidly progressing on the development front, the GST Council's decision is monumental for the state. The council has implemented substantial changes to the tax structure based on Chaudhary's suggestions, reducing GST slabs to just 12% and 5%, while completely eliminating GST on several essential items.
Tax-Free Essentials: Bread and Notebooks Become Affordable
The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that the welfare of the people of Bihar is their top priority. The GST Council's decision aims to alleviate the tax burden on the poor and middle-class citizens of Bihar. Taxes on bread, oil, snacks, textiles, hand pumps, tractors, sports equipment, footwear, and construction materials have been reduced. Now, there will be no tax on any type of bread, whereas previously, flatbreads were taxed up to 18%.
Focus on Basic Necessities: Samrat Chaudhary
Chaudhary stated that the changes were made with a focus on minimizing taxes on essential items. Under this new decision, prices for books, notebooks, milk bottles, renewable energy devices, electronic goods, and various employment-related items will decrease. Additionally, GST has been set to zero on health and life insurance.
Relief for the Underprivileged, Farmers, and Common People
Chaudhary remarked that this reform is designed with the poor, farmers, and the general populace in mind. Bihar has played a crucial role in this historic decision. As the national economy flourishes, Bihar's contributions will be significant. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, stating that this decision is a strong step towards the Prime Minister's vision of a developed India by 2047.
Critique of the Opposition
Chaudhary took a jab at the opposition, suggesting that if Lalu Prasad Yadav had a better understanding of the economy, Bihar's situation would be different. He claimed that the recognition of Bihar's suggestions at the national level has elevated the state's pride.
