UP T20 League Faces Match Fixing Allegations After Bookie Offers
Cricket Gully | September 6, 2025 11:39 PM CST

Lucknow Police registered an FIR after BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) reported an alleged match-fixing attempt in the ongoing UP T20 League. The news, as reported by Times Now, has rocked the cricket community ahead of the final between Kashi Rudras and Meerut Mavericks on September 6.

According to the FIR, registered on August 31, Arjun Chauhan, the manager of Kashi Rudra, was sent a strange message by an Instagram user named "vipss_nakrani". The user identified himself as a key bookie and promised Rs 1 crore for determining match outcomes, also guaranteeing a Rs 50 lakh commission.

A trap was set after the team manager brought ACU into confidence. ACU members began talking on Instagram, and they didn't waste much time getting the phone number of the accused. The accused instructed them to strictly use WhatsApp calls and messages and insisted that players obey his orders during matches. He also promised immediate payment in dollars or cash.

The suspect stated that, if they so wished, he and his accomplices would be at the ground premises for the entire duration of the match and would make the payment to him immediately after it ended. The ACU captured all the calls and conversations on another device, all of which have been provided to the police.

Police sources say the preliminary investigation suggests a premeditated plan in connection with match-fixing and gambling. Along with the other provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, police further stated charges have been filed under provisions 318, 319, 112, 62, Section 3 of the Public Gambling Act, 1867, and Section 66D of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

The investigators are trying to identify the owner of the Instagram account and unravel their network. The UP T20 League began in Lucknow on August 17 and will end on September 6. Besides the two finalists, Lucknow Falcons and Kanpur Superstars advanced to the playoffs. Kashi Rudras beat Meerut Mavericks by five runs in Qualifier 1. The Mavericks beat the Falcons by 19 runs to reach the top clash.
