While most people know Anand Mahindra for his sharp wit and business acumen, his social media posts often reveal a lighter, more curious side. Recently, the Mahindra Group Chairman shared his thoughts on a breath-taking new tourist attraction in Visakhapatnam, a glass skywalk bridge perched high above Kailasagiri Hill. Though he admitted it’s one of his dream destinations, there’s one fear holding him back. While he may not visit it himself, he encourages others to experience it for its stunning views and thrilling design.

Where is Anand Mahindra's dream destination?

Set to open this month (reportedly next week), the glass skywalk bridge in Vizag is being touted as the longest hanging glass bridge in India, with a 55-metre span. It towers 862 feet above the ground and 1,000 feet above sea level, offering spectacular panoramic views of the Bay of Bengal on one side and the Eastern Ghats on the other.

Anand Mahindra revealed in this tweet that while it's visually impressive, admitted he might skip visiting it due to his discomfort with heights.

This architectural feat is inspired by iconic glass bridges around the world, especially China’s Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge, which still holds the global record for height and length. However, Vizag’s version isn’t far behind, featuring a vertical drop of 262 metres. It’s not just visually impressive, but also structurally sound.

More about the Vizag skywalk

The bridge is built using three layers of tempered laminated glass, each 40 mm thick, and supported by 40 tonnes of steel. These materials were imported from Germany, ensuring top-notch quality. The bridge is built using strong, toughened glass that won’t break easily, even if hit with a hammer, making it very safe for visitors. According to TOI, while it’s strong enough to hold over 100 people, only 40 will be allowed on it at a time to keep the experience safe and enjoyable. The entire structure took about seven to eight months to complete.

To make the attraction accessible, ticket pricing is expected to be set between Rs 250 and Rs 300 per person, much lower than similar attractions like Vagamon, which charges Rs 500. As anticipation builds, final touches like Tricolour-themed LED illumination and load testing are underway. Once opened, this skywalk is likely to become a major draw for domestic and international tourists, and a new symbol of modern Indian tourism.
