New Delhi: England produced a record-breaking performance in the third ODI at the Rose Bowl, Southampton as they crushed South Africa by the largest margin of runs in ODI history. Joe Root and Jacob Bethell gave early power to Lions with their centuries helping hosts pile on a mammoth 414-5 before their bowlers dismantled the visitors for a paltry score to seal a historic win.

After an early catch drop Root set the tone with a masterful 96-ball hundred, his 19th in one-day internationals, showing his trademark ability to rotate strike and control the tempo. He was joined by 21-year-old Bethell, who struck his maiden ODI century in style, smashing 110 off just 76 balls. Their 182-run partnership laid the platform for Jos Buttler to unleash late fireworks, blasting an unbeaten 62 off 32 deliveries as England surged past the 400 mark.

The Proteas had a huge task of climbing a mountain as the run chase never got going for them. They were 8 for 4 as Jofra Archer ripped through the top order with two wickets in two maidens, while another shock added by Brydon Carse. From there on, England didn’t let the players settle down.
