Ahmedabad holds a very special place in my heart,” says Tara Sutaria , who was the showstopper at the season finale of the Ahmedabad Times Fashion Week 2025. The Student of the Year 2 actress says, “Every visit here has been a beautiful experience. The love I get here is so pure! I remember coming here to promote Marjaavaan (2019), just my second film, during Navratri . We were surrounded by so many people who wanted to meet us that we missed our flight back to Mumbai (smiles). This kind of love is rare to find.”
‘As I am getting older, I am trying to be selective about everything’
Tara, who debuted with Student of the Year 2 in 2019, has done varied yet selective films like Tadap (2021), Heropanti 2, Ek Villain Returns (both in 2022) and Apurva (2023) since then.
Has it been a conscious choice? She says, “Not really, but as you move ahead in the profession, you realise a lot of things. COVID taught me a lot of patience and also made me realise that I need to be a little more mindful of where I want to spend my time. As I am growing older, I am realising how important it is to be selective and wise about what you want to do with your time. I think it’s reflected in my work choices too. Also, I believe in quality over quantity, and not the other way around (smiles).”
‘It was high time artistes worked in every film industry’
Tara, who will next be seen in a film shot simultaneously in Kannada and English, believes, “It was high time the lines between industries were blurred. Until recently, there were divisions in the film industries, like north, south, east etc. But I am glad that the lines are blurring, and we are working together.”
She adds, “It is beautiful that as Indians, we have so much to talk about and show as a culture. Today, every artiste can work anywhere, and everyone is able to speak their own language in a single project. Many young actors are exploring this phase of cinema, and even the experienced and veteran actors are doing characters and languages that audiences would have never expected. I think it is a very exciting time for the entertainment industries across India.”
‘Being half-Gujarati makes this state very special for me’
Tara shares, “Being half- Gujarat i and half-Parsi, this place (Gujarat) and the people here are very close to my heart, more so because of my parents. I have visited other cities in Gujarat too, and be it food or hospitality, it has always felt like home. It is rare to experience such warmth. Every time I am in Gujarat, there is an instant connection and love that I feel for the state.”
Talking about her musical journey, Tara says, "I am coming up with something very exciting with my music, which I can’t wait to share with everyone. I hope to announce it soon."
