Renowned Pakistani singer Tahira Syed recently gave a candid interview in which she spoke openly about her personal life, including her marriage to famous lawyer and TV personality Naeem Bokhari, their eventual divorce, raising her children alone, and why she never considered remarrying.

Tahira Syed, one of the most iconic voices in Pakistani music, shared that her relationship with Naeem Bokhari began with a chance meeting at an office, which soon turned into love. According to her, Bokhari also developed a strong bond with her mother, which made the path to marriage smoother. She mentioned that during that era, it was common for Syed families to prefer matrimonial alliances within their own lineage, so their union did not face major opposition.

She recalled that while she had already gained fame as a singer, Naeem Bokhari was a practicing law at the time. The two got married and remained together for several years. Tahira emphasized that the decision to part ways was mutual and happened in a peaceful and respectful manner.

“There was no bitterness,” she stated. “We married by choice and divorced by choice. It was a graceful separation.”

Talking about the impact of the divorce on their children, Tahira revealed that it had minimal emotional effect. At the time of the separation, her daughter was 12 years old and her son was only three and a half. She said the children had already grown accustomed to their father’s absence due to his busy work schedule.

“They rarely saw him even when we were married,” she noted. “He would leave early in the morning and return late at night, often after the children had gone to sleep.”

Tahira also claimed that Naeem Bokhari was not very involved in the upbringing of their children and that she took full responsibility for their nurturing and education. Reflecting on her journey as a single mother, she expressed pride in having raised her children well.

Now a grandmother, Tahira shared that both of her children are married and settled abroad.

When asked if she ever considered remarrying, Tahira Syed said, “No, I never thought about getting married again. Love comes and goes, but I found strength and fulfillment in raising my children and living life on my own terms.”

Her story offers a rare glimpse into the personal life of one of Pakistan’s most beloved artists — a woman of strength, dignity, and quiet resilience.
