Dylect Sense Classic dashcam review: Simple, reliable, and easy on the pocket

Out on the road in traffic, a dashcam feels less like a fancy accessory and more like an extra pair of eyes that never blink. We see it all: lane-cutting bikers to surprise bumper scratchers and what not. Therefore, having video proof can save plenty of time and arguments. With that thought, we recently tried out the Dylect Sense Classic single-channel dashcam. Now, the company markets it as a unit featuring a compact design, full HD recording, app support, and smart safety features. On paper, it has everything you’d want, but here’s how it has fared so far in everyday usage.

Dylect Sense Classic Dashcam : Design and installation
The first impression is positive. The Sense Classic is a small, cylindrical camera that tucks neatly behind the IRVM and doesn’t clutter the cabin. Installation too, if fairly straightforward and easy. At just 60 grams, it’s light but surprisingly doesn’t feel flimsy.

The dashcam uses a sticky pad to mount on the windscreen, but the grip isn’t always the most confidence-inspiring. Interestingly, it holds on much better if you place it over the Fastag sticker or a similar surface. It does the job, though I would have personally preferred a suction mount for the added flexibility of repositioning or removing it when needed. That said, this comes down to personal preference and may not bother everyone.

Dylect Sense Classic Dashcam: Overall experience
On the road, the dashcam delivers 1080p full HD recording at 30fps through its 140° wide-angle lens. Daytime footage is quite impressive, with enough clarity to capture number plates and traffic signs, while the wide-angle lens ensures you’re not missing activity at the edges of the road. At night, the output is usable, though far from spectacular: still, that’s acceptable given the price point. Speaking of which, the Sense Classic is currently available at a hefty Rs 2,000 discount, bringing the price down to Rs 2,999 from its original Rs 4,999, making it a solid value proposition.

Coming back to the experience, night recording is where the dashcam shows its limitations. Headlight glare and low ambient lighting often wash out finer details, and despite having wide dynamic range, it doesn’t quite deliver the crystal-clear visibility some might expect. Still, for regular city commutes and highway runs, the footage is clear enough to serve its purpose, which means it holds its ground in this department as well.

Where the Sense Classic shines is in its safety-focused features. There’s a built-in G-sensor that reacts to sudden braking or impacts by automatically locking a one-minute clip, ensuring important evidence is never overwritten. Loop recording also works seamlessly, cycling old footage out for new while preserving any locked files. These touches make it a trustworthy tool for real-world driving.

The camera connects to your phone through the Dylect app, available on Android and iOS. This allows you to view live footage, download clips, and change settings directly from your smartphone. In my time with it, the companion app worked fairly well, though there were occasional hiccups with dropped connections. Each time that happened, I had to reconnect via Wi-Fi manually, which isn’t the smoothest process. That said, once paired with the dashcam’s Wi-Fi, it usually reconnects automatically, with the speaker confirming the connection. Alternatively, you can simply tap on the device in the app, and you’re good to go. A handy touch is the ability to capture snapshots directly through the app, which adds to the convenience.

On the app front, the interface is good, the data and info is well laid out and is easy to use. Parking Mode adds another useful layer of security, provided you install an optional hardwire kit. We haven’t tested this feature but what it basically does is that it enables the dashcam to record when it detects motion or an impact even while the car is switched off, which is particularly helpful if you often park in open or crowded spaces.

Storage capacity is another strong point, as it supports MicroSD cards up to 1TB, though it’s worth noting that no card is included in the box. The tiny 0.96-inch display is only good for basic setup and is in line (in terms of clarity and crispness) with the segment. Does its job fairly.

Dylect Classic single-channel dashcam: Verdict
Overall, the Dylect Classic single-channel dashcam is a practical, compact device that delivers on most of what it promises. It offers reliable recording, a discreet design, handy app support, and smart features like the G-sensor and parking mode.

If you’re in the market for a budget-friendly dashcam that delivers on the essentials, this one makes a solid case. Whether it’s the daily office run or a weekend road trip, it stands out as a dependable companion that adds peace of mind without adding much to your expenses.
