Vivek Agnihotri’s controversial political drama The Bengal files were released in theaters on September 5, 2025, which received a tough competition from Tiger Shroff’s rebel 4 and Hollywood’s The Conjuring: Last Rights. Despite the challenging debut, the film has shown firmness and grossed Rs 1.10 crore on its fourth day, Monday, September 8, 2025, according to secondary estimates. With this, its total earning in India has increased to Rs 7.85 crore.
On Friday, the film grossed Rs 1.75 crore, following which an increase of Rs 2.25 crore on Saturday with an increase of Rs 2.25 crore and 22.22% on Sunday earned Rs 2.75 crore, which reflects a steady increase in weekends. However, Monday was observed after the weekend, with the total Hindi occupancy 18.24%. Only 9.99% of the spectators came to the morning show, which reached 17.10% in the afternoon, 21.66% in the evening and 24.19% in the night. The film faced several major obstacles, including the alleged “informal ban” in West Bengal, where no theater displayed it due to alleged political pressure.
Adorned with brilliant artists like Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar and Simrat Kaur, as well as Shashwat Chatterjee, Namashi Chakraborty and other artists, The Bengal files investigate the 1946 Direct Action Day and Noakhali riots. On September 4, a special screening in Mumbai, which included Kher, Chakravarti and Kumar, spoke a lot of discussion. Despite mixed reviews, where some people are praising its historical story and others are criticizing it as a propaganda, the box office performance of the film depends on oral promotion to maintain pace against its high-octane rivals.
