Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has made a striking remark about Virat Kohli, saying that while the star batter’s body remains in top shape, his mindset is not the same as it once was.
Speaking at the India Today Conclave, Karthik reflected on Kohli’s current phase. He noted that Kohli, who has retired from T20Is and Tests, continues to maintain exceptional fitness despite focusing only on ODIs. “Virat is someone who can handle all the distractions life throws at him. His discipline and fitness are still remarkable,” Karthik said.
“Virat’s Mindset Has Changed”However, Karthik added a crucial point:
“Virat is still an inspiration for the youth. His aggression was never just for show—he backed it with performances across formats. But having spent time with him, I feel his mind is not the same as it was a few years ago. His body is still good, but mentally he seems different.”
Karthik revealed that he recently met Kohli in the UK, where the former Indian captain seemed happy and content. “We should respect what his mind tells him now. He has achieved so much, and he knows what he wants to do next. That choice deserves respect,” he added.
Kohli, who recently cleared his fitness test in England, is expected to feature in the upcoming ODI series against Australia. His performance there could be decisive in determining whether he continues until the 2027 ODI World Cup.
