Carlos Alcaraz's coach has highlighted the Spaniard's "chameleon-like" training approach as the key factor behind his triumph over Jannik Sinner in Sunday's US Open final. Juan Carlos Ferrero, who has coached Alcaraz for six years through all six of his Grand Slam triumphs, believes the 22-year-old's special preparation for the season's final major tournament was crucial to his success.
Alcaraz defeated Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to claim his sixth major championship and gain revenge for his 2025 Wimbledon final defeat to the Italian star. Speaking to the media following the US Open final, Ferrero revealed he had urged his young protégé to adjust minor things both in preparation and during the decisive match - something that Alcaraz executed flawlessly.
He said: "The most incredible thing about Carlos is that he is so good at quickly correcting the small details he needs to improve."

Highlighting Alcaraz's remarkable ability to adapt instantly, Ferrero added: "He is chameleon-like, and you can ask him to do anything during a match, he adapts and ultimately succeeds, and we also transfer that a lot to training."
After his four-set defeat to Sinner in the Wimbledon final - which left the Italian just one Grand Slam behind his tally - Alcaraz and his mentor launched into a specialised training camp to gear up for the year's concluding major tournament, the US Open.
Ferrero said: "I asked Carlos Alcaraz for certain new things in preparation for the upcoming matches against Jannik in particular. In just 10 days, he improved considerably."

The pair analysed the Wimbledon and French Open finals against Sinner to "try to see the little things that could be improved." Following this rigorous preparation, Ferrero confessed that Alcaraz was "perfect" during the US Open final as he demolished his main rival in a mere two hours and 42 minutes.
Highlighting the rivalry developing between the two rising tennis stars, the former world No. 1 reckons the pair mirror the early era of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the sport. Alcaraz was equally delighted with his displays at the US Open, believing he delivered "amazing tennis" across the final major championship of the 2025 campaign to claim his second Grand Slam crown of the year.
The 22-year-old said: "In general, I think it has been my best level during the two weeks. Since the first match until the final I think I've been playing great tennis.
"The focus was really, really high. I didn't lose the focus at all in any of the matches, which I'm really happy about. With the serve, I've been really focused on it. I got broken just three times, once in the final. In general, I just played amazing tennis."

Reflecting on his tactical approach against Sinner, Alcaraz added: "I just maintained my best level since the first game until the last one. Tactically, I tried to be perfect. Matches against Jannik are all about being good tactically, and physically it's really demanding as well.
"I think I have to be perfect against him. Today, I just was brilliant, to be honest. In the second set, a few mistakes, but in general, I just was brilliant. If I want to beat Jannik on the biggest stage, I have to be brilliant, which I'm really happy about."
Alcaraz now boasts six Grand Slam triumphs, including two French Open victories, two Wimbledon titles, and two US Open crowns - leaving only the Australian Open missing from his collection of major trophies. The Spaniard has also reclaimed the world No.1 ranking with his US Open triumph, overtaking Sinner before the off-season to begin 2026 as tennis's top player.
