Apple has unveiled its new iPhone 17 lineup along with updates to its digital watches and AirPod products at its annual September product launch. The new iPhones are the first to be released since President Donald Trump returned to the White House and unleashed a barrage of tariffs in what his administration says is an attempt to bring overseas manufacturing back to the US a crusade that has thrust Apple CEO Tim Cook into the hot seat. Apple Launches iPhone 17 Series The new devices come with a larger 6.3-inch display and are powered by a new A19 chip to help power Apples AI features. The iPhone 17s front camera has also been upgraded to have a wider field of view and new sensor allowing you to take landscape photos without having to rotate your phone The new devices are still expected to be made in Apples manufacturing hubs in China and India much to the Trump administrations consternation. Apple’s iPhone 17 Series Production In India Foxconn subsidiary Hon Hai’s new Bengaluru facility which started trial runs of Apple’s latest model in April has already emerged as India’s largest iPhone plant by installed production capacity. Apple’s Tamil Nadu to Karnataka five factories including Tata’s state-of-the-art Hosur unit and Foxconn’s 300-acre mega hub near Bengaluru airport are producing the newest iPhones for global markets. The lineup spans the iPhone 17 Pro assembled at Foxconn and Tata-managed Pegatron facilities along with the iPhone 17 base model which also rolls out of Tata’s Wistron plant in Karnataka and the new Hosur factory in Tamil Nadu. The iPhone Air Apple’s thinnest handset yet is exclusively manufactured by Foxconn in Sriperumbudur. Much of this output is sent towards demand in the US and Europe and also to meet demand in India’s fast-growing smartphone market according to the report by Moneycontrol. Nearly half of all iPhones sold in the US are now made here and for the first time India-made models hit global shelves on launch day instead of trailing Chinese shipments. The shift is already visible in trade data: smartphone exports from India jumped 30% year-on-year in H1 2025 to 40 million units powered largely by iPhones bound for the US. (With Inputs From PTI)
