The legal dispute over late businessman Sunjay Kapur’s estate took a new turn in the Delhi High Court as Priya Kapur’s counsel strongly defended the will and questioned the claims made by Karisma Kapoor’s children. Senior advocate Rajiv Nayyar, appearing for Priya Kapur, admitted before the court that the will was not registered but maintained that it remained valid. He further told the court that Sunjay’s children had already received assets worth Rs 1,900 crore just five days before filing the present suit, a TOI report stated.
The lawyer also questioned the timing of the children’s claims. “Where were you all this while? After getting Rs 1,900 crore worth of assets, you suddenly claim you haven’t got anything. You were nowhere to be seen for the last 15 years,” he argued.
The court said, “Defendant No. 1 (Priya) will file a list of all assets (of the deceased), immovable and movable, known to her as on June 12, 2025. List after three weeks for consideration of ad-interim injunction at 2:30 PM.”
The will was examined by the court and returned to Priya’s lawyers, though it suggested that the document could be shared with the children, Samaira and Kiaan, if they agree to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
“I am the last wife”
Presenting Priya’s side, Nayyar said, “I am the last wife. There were acrimonious divorce proceedings between Sunjay and Karisma, ending in the Supreme Court. So much for the love and affection now being shown. At the age of 50, a man dies. I am a widow and have a six-year-old child.”The lawyer also questioned the timing of the children’s claims. “Where were you all this while? After getting Rs 1,900 crore worth of assets, you suddenly claim you haven’t got anything. You were nowhere to be seen for the last 15 years,” he argued.
Court directs Priya to declare assets
During the hearing, the Delhi High Court directed Priya Kapur to disclose all movable and immovable assets as of 12 June 2025, the date of Sunjay Kapur’s death. Justice Jyoti Singh asked for the list to be presented within three weeks.
