Gen Z Movement's Leadership Decision
In a virtual gathering that spanned almost four hours, members of the Gen Z movement reached a consensus to appoint former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as their interim leader. This decision aims to position her as their representative in forthcoming discussions.
During the core session dedicated to selecting the interim leader, it was unanimously decided that no youth linked to political parties would take part in the leadership discussions. Karki, recognized as a significant civic activist, was selected due to her non-affiliation with any political party, making her an impartial candidate for leading the negotiations.
Members of Gen Z expressed that no other candidate was seen as more suitable for this role at the present moment. The group plans to release an official statement to confirm Karki’s appointment. Although the names of Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah and young political figure Sagar Shakal were mentioned, they were not finalized.
The group stressed the importance of having both the leadership and agenda widely accepted by all members. Previously, Army Chief General Ashok Raj had proposed that Gen Z representatives engage in discussions with the Rastriya Swatantra Party and Durga Prasai-a, a suggestion that the group has firmly rejected.
Reports indicate that the former Chief Justice has accepted the role of interim leader.
