Davina McCall has confessed that she reserves her "crying" for the privacy of her home, as she candidly discussed the emotional impact of a cherished television programme. As viewers eagerly anticipate the return of the BAFTA-winning ITV series Long Lost Family later this month, hosts Davina and Nicky Campbell have shared whether they still become "emotional" during the production of the show.

In what the broadcaster has labelled a "deeply moving" series, the two presenters narrate the tales of lost or estranged family members as they reunite after periods of separation. As fans gear up for the upcoming episode, which is set to celebrate the bond between brothers, Davina and Nicky delve into the emotional strain that filming the series can impose on them. In fact, Davina even confesses to "crying". Speaking to TV Times, Davina revealed: "I learn about the family histories beforehand so I do my crying at home. It's their moment, and it's just an honour to be there."

Nicky added: "As somebody who had an amazing adoptive family, every story affects me, which is why I love doing it, but also why it can be a challenge."

"It does take its toll. And I chat to the people off-camera about both our lives and get a lot from it."

Meanwhile, following an episode centred on mothers whose children were taken during the reign of Spanish dictator Francisco Franco, a Long Lost Family special saw the creators reach out to those connected to the UK's Mother and Baby Homes Scandal.

In this instalment, the programme examined cases involving unmarried, expectant mothers and their babies' adoptions spanning 1949 to 1976. The team also collaborated with social worker Ariel Bruce to help reconnect mothers with their grown-up children.

A programme spokesperson revealed: "Around a quarter of the stories across our series since it began fifteen years ago have involved people who stayed in, gave birth in, or were placed for adoption from mother and baby homes.

"However, we have never made a programme that focusses solely on such stories. It feels like the right moment to do so."

Meanwhile, it emerged recently that Davina "saved" This Morning therapist Eva Speakman from a "dark place" after offering her vital guidance about the menopause.

Eva had been enduring a host of crippling symptoms, including hair loss, low mood, joint pain, weight gain, palpitations and poor sleep, yet her Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) tablets weren't providing relief.

She revealed to Closer magazine: "Nik reminded me that Davina had once said, 'Eva, if you've got any problems when it gets to that point (with the menopause), speak to me'. So, I sent her a text explaining that I was on HRT, but nothing was helping and that I was in a very dark place."

Davina recommended Eva visit a menopause clinic, and she subsequently took oestrogen gel and progesterone tablets, which proved "brilliantly" effective.
