An ex-royal butler has revealed how he was once summoned to a meeting with Prince Harry and Prince William to discuss their late mother in the hope that he would share anecdotes and information about their late mother. Paul Burrell was formerly a close confidant of Princess Diana and worked for the Royal Family for over two decades.

In 2017, Harry requested a meeting with Mr Burrell. William and Harry are said to have explained to him that they had spoken to many people over the years who knew their mother and had decided it was now time they spoke to him

He revealed to the Telegraph: "The boys contacted me by letter and said we would like to see you at Kensington Palace. They were unclear about what happened in the Kensington years."

The boys asked their late mother's butler where he thought it had all gone wrong with their parents, but were unlikely to have been prepared for his response.

"I said, 'I'm not sure whether I should tell you this'," he recalls. "'Do you really want to know?' Harry said, 'Yes I do want to know'. William didn't say anything."

Burrell's latest memoir, titled 'The Royal Insider: My Life with the Queen, the King and Princess Diana' is released on September 11 and highlights the butler's friendship with the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

The description reads: "Burrell shares many untold stories of his life at home and abroad with the Royals. With warmth, candour, and rare insight, he recounts unexpected moments of intimacy with the Queen, who gently guided a fresh-faced, 18-year-old Burrell through palace life.

"He speaks candidly about the tensions that simmered during those years - including the breakdown of Charles and Diana's marriage and his own complex relationship with Princes William and Harry."

Former royal butler Paul Burrell has shared why he has made the decision to write another tell-all book about the Royal Family. After working as the late Queen's footman, Paul, 67, joined the household of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales at Highgrove House in 1987.

Speaking on behalf of Genting Casino, Paul revealed the reason behind his decision to release The Royal Insider.

He said: "We thought that the Queen would be there forever. We thought that she'd be at least 100, we thought that she'd live to be as old as her mother. I think that because of her passing and at the same time, I was reflecting on my own mortality and thought that I might not have much longer to write this down, so I better get it done."

I spent hours just actually pouring my feelings down onto paper. Life is just a tapestry of memories and then it's over."
