Pakistani superstar Fawad Khan has revealed that he felt immense pressure while working on his upcoming Indo-Pak romantic film Aabeer Gulaal In a recent interview, the acclaimed actor spoke candidly about his decision to take on the project and the emotional and logistical challenges that came with it.
Known for his versatile roles and charismatic screen presence, Fawad shared that the film, which stars Indian actress Vaani Kapoor opposite him, is a refreshing change from the increasingly intense and violent themes dominating contemporary cinema. He described Aabeer Gulaal as a much-needed “palette cleanser” — a light-hearted and simple love story made with care and subtlety.
“In today’s cinema, we see a lot of darkness, intensity, and serious narratives. There’s a growing need for something softer, something that lets people breathe,” Fawad said. “Aabeer Gulaal is that comforting dish made of simple ingredients, where every flavor stands out.”
Despite the film’s gentle nature, its release journey has been far from smooth. Fawad admitted that he was under a great deal of stress regarding the film’s release, particularly because of its cross-border cast and production team. He shared that delays and geopolitical sensitivities added layers of uncertainty and personal anxiety.
“I was very worried. There was a lot of pressure around the film’s release,” he said. “But I believed in the story and the message it carries.”
While Aabeer Gulaal is set for release on September 12 in several international markets — including Pakistan, the UAE, and other foreign territories — the film will not be released in India, a decision influenced by current diplomatic tensions and regulatory hurdles.
Fawad and Vaani’s on-screen pairing has already generated buzz among fans, particularly those yearning for a narrative that transcends borders and focuses on universal themes like love and connection. The film’s trailers have received positive reactions for their emotional depth and aesthetic simplicity.
Aabeer Gulaal marks Fawad Khan’s return to a more romantic genre, reminding audiences of his earlier performances in hits like Khoobsurat and Humsafar. While the film may face restrictions in certain regions, its global release aims to bring together audiences through shared emotions and timeless storytelling.
