Grease 2, the follow-up to the iconic American musical Grease, has been somewhat overlooked despite its dedicated fan base and the charm of its lead actors.

Released in the 1980s, decades after the original film, it didn't quite reach the same level of fame, although some fans have said they 'liked it even better than the first'.

The sequel, which is also a standalone film, was released in 1982 and returned to Rydell High School with a fresh cast.

Starring Michelle Pfeiffer in her first leading role and Maxwell Caulfield, then aged 21, the pair left fans 'swooning' with their performances.

Pfeiffer, who was 23 at the time and is now 67, has been described as an 'ageless beauty' and went on to star in numerous other films, reports the Express.

Set two years after the original film's graduation, Grease 2 takes place in September 1961 and is currently available for streaming on Paramount Plus.

As the new term begins at Rydell High, Principal McGee and her secretary Blanche are horrified to see the return of the Pink Ladies and the legendary T-Birds on their motorbikes.

It's a story of youthful romance featuring some relaxed or cocky characters to deal with, there's some surprising snogging, aggressive responses alongside the iconic soundtrack, featuring Michelle Pfeiffer performing Cool Rider.

Despite the follow-up receiving mixed critiques, numerous fans adored Grease 2, with some preferring it to the original Grease.

One critic on Rotten Tomatoes wrote: "I loved this movie. I liked it even better than the first Grease.

"Maxwell Caulfield is so dreamy with his striking good looks and charming English accent and I like the way he doesn't overact in his part."

The critic added: "Michelle Pfeiffer is so beautiful and she plays her part very well even in her singing and dancing.

"I don't understand at all why the critics were so hard on this film. Also I thought the music was even better than the first Grease.

"One of my favourites was Cool Rider and Michelle Pfeiffer did a great job singing and dancing in this number.

"It's thoroughly charming and every once in a while I watch it so I could drool over Maxwell Caulfield."

Maxwell Caulfield portrays Michael Carrington, a British exchange pupil in the movie and relative to Sandy Olsson.

Michelle Pfeiffer's portrayal of Stephanie Zinone, the boss of the Pink Ladies in Grease 2, launched her to stardom and subsequently she secured leading roles in Scarface (1983) before The Fabulous Baker Boys in 1989.
