Authorities have reportedly discovered ammunition engraved with messages referencing “transgender and anti-fascist ideology” inside a rifle believed to have been used in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The internal report, cited by The Washington Journal, cautioned investigators not to draw premature conclusions based on the markings.

According to the bulletin, police recovered an older-model .30 caliber bolt-action hunting rifle wrapped in a towel near Utah Valley University, where the shooting occurred on Wednesday. A spent cartridge was found in the chamber, and three unspent rounds with the inscriptions were still in the magazine.

The shooter, who struck Kirk with a single rifle shot to the neck during a campus event, remained at large as the manhunt entered its third day. Investigators have released surveillance footage showing a man walking on the rooftop of the building from which the shot was fired. He was later seen climbing down, crossing into a wooded area, and leaving the scene.

Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason confirmed investigators have collected palm prints, smudges, and a shoe print believed to match Converse sneakers from the scene.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox, appearing alongside FBI Director Kash Patel, urged the public to assist in identifying the suspect. “We have already received more than 7,000 leads, the highest number since the Boston Marathon bombing,” Cox said. The FBI has offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Kirk, 31, a prominent conservative voice, author, and podcast host, was on campus hosting one of his signature student Q&A sessions on hot-button issues like gun rights and race when he was killed. Nearly 3,000 people were in attendance.

The killing has intensified concerns about rising political violence in the U.S. since January 6, 2021, with Reuters documenting over 300 ideologically motivated attacks.

US President Donald Trump, who credited Kirk with energizing conservative youth and helping secure his 2024 election victory, said investigators are making “great strides” in tracking down the shooter. He announced Kirk would be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Vice President JD Vance canceled his planned New York trip to personally escort Kirk’s family and casket back to Arizona aboard Air Force Two.

“Charlie Kirk was a great man who inspired millions,” Trump told reporters. “We will find the person who did this and deal with him appropriately.”
