Mumbai: Shardiya Navratri holds immense importance in Hinduism and is considered one of the most sacred festivals dedicated to Goddess Durga. In 2025, the festival will begin on Monday, 22 September, marking the first day of the Ashwin month’s Shukla Paksha. This day is especially significant as it marks Ghatasthapana (Kalash Sthapana), the ritual that inaugurates the nine days of worship.
Unlike most years, Shardiya Navratri in 2025 will extend over 10 days instead of nine due to the inclusion of an additional tithi (lunar day). Devotees will observe fasting, conduct special rituals, and worship the nine divine forms of Goddess Durga, culminating with Kanya Pujan and Havan on the concluding days.
Worship of Nine Forms of Goddess Durga
During Shardiya Navratri, devotees worship the nine manifestations of Goddess Durga with great devotion. Fasts are kept to seek her blessings, and rituals conclude with Kanya Pujan (worship of young girls symbolising purity and divine power) and Havan (sacred fire ritual).
Shardiya Navratri 2025 Saptami Date
The Saptami Tithi in 2025 will be dedicated to Maa Kalaratri, one of the fiercest forms of Goddess Durga. This will be observed on Monday, 29 September 2025.
Shardiya Navratri 2025 Ashtami Date
The Durga Ashtami Vrat will be dedicated to Maa Mahagauri. In 2025, Ashtami falls on Tuesday, 30 September, which is also the ninth day of Navratri. This day is considered highly auspicious for Kanya Pujan and Havan, performed with utmost devotion.
Shardiya Navratri 2025 Navami Date
The Maha Navami Vrat will be observed on Wednesday, 1 October 2025. This day is dedicated to Maa Siddhidatri, the ninth form of Goddess Durga, worshipped for granting boons and fulfilling wishes. Maha Navami marks the final day of fasting and carries great spiritual significance, making it one of the most powerful days of the festival.
