The English clubs competing in the Europa League and the Conference League have received a boost due to a rule change. UEFA have implemented a last-minute rule adjustment, allowing teams to temporarily replace an injured player with one not previously included in their 25-man squad for this season's Europa and Conference League fixtures.
If a player is injured and the club believes they won't feature by matchday six, they can be replaced with a team-mate who was previously not included. Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest are set to play eight games in the Europa League while Crystal Palace men face six matches in the Conference League.
In a statement, UEFA said: "The Executive Committee approved an amendment to the 2025/26 UEFA men's club competitions' regulations to admit the temporary replacement of a maximum of one outfield player with long-term injury or illness during the league phase until matchday 6 included.
"The reasoning for the adaptation is to ensure that squad lists are not unfairly reduced and players are safeguarded from additional workload pressure."
