Woman 'sexually assaulted' near pier in popular UK seaside town - police issue appeal

A woman was allegedly sexually assaulted near a pier in a UK seaside town. A man reportedly walked the woman to Worthing seafront, in Sussex, before sexually assaulting her.

Sussex Police said the alleged attack took place near the pier at around 1am and are now appealing to the public for information. Investigating police officers have released a picture of a man they would like to speak to following the reported attack on Monday morning (September 8). The picture shared by police was taken from CCTV outside the McDonald's restaurant in the town's Liverpool Road. The restaurant is located around 0.3 miles, a seven-minute walk, from Worthing Pier.

The man pictured is described as in his 20s and slim. He was wearing a black hoodie, black trainers with an orange section on the heel and carrying a black rucksack.

Sussex Police said: "Police want to speak to this man in relation to a serious sexual assault that took place near Worthing pier in the early hours of Monday morning (8 September).

"Police are investigating a report that a man walked with a woman, taking her to the seafront at about 1am, where she was sexually assaulted.

"This image was taken from CCTV outside McDonalds in Liverpool Road, Worthing."

They added: "The man is described at in his 20s, slim and wearing a black hoodie, black trainers with an orange section on the heel and carrying a black rucksack.

"If you recognise this man or have any information that could help our investigation please contact us on 101, quoting serial 77 of 08/09."
