A trichologist has shared the most important stepwhen washing your hair, and it's one many miss because they just want to get out of the shower. Philip Kingsley shared a video on their TikTokwhere trichologist Anabel Kingsley explained if you feel as though your hair is never quite clean enough, you need to keep doing one step until it does.
Anabel explained: "As my father used to say, if you think you've rinsed enough, rinse again," highlighting this is a vital step if you want your locks to resemble those you see in magazines and on social media.
1. Detangle your hairFirst, Anabel shared you need to detangle your hair before you even step foot in the shower.

"So get a wide tooth comb or your regular hair brush and you just take any tangles out starting gently at your ends and then working up," she explained.
2. Wet your hair thoroughlyAnabel explained the "wetter your hair is, the less product you will have to use," which means your products will last longer and you won't have to buy them as often, which sounds like a win-win.
3. Shampoo properlyShe shared you should "put some shampoo into the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, and then smooth that over the top, mid-lengths and ends".
Anabel said personally she prefers to put more shampoo in her hands, rub her hands together, and then she massages her scalp, under her hair so her fingers are "properly touching" her scalp.
"Then from front to back, you gently but firmly massage your scalp, get the sides up this way," she urged, saying it's important to massage your hair line too, as well as "the nape of your neck".
Anabel said: "Keep doing this all over for about one minute. Gently squeeze the sides through the lengths of your hair," urging people not to "rub" their hair together.
"The real aim when you shampoo is to cleanse your scalp; then you rinse really well until the water runs clear," she reiterated.
4. Condition your hairAnabel said "hopefully" your hair shouldn't be "too tangled because you haven't rubbed your strands or piled your hair on top of your head," which she said is "another big no".
She continued: "Get some conditioner onto the palms of your hands and rub them together, and then smooth over your hair and then firstly, your first detangle should be with your hands and your finger tips.
"Work the conditioner through, and any kind of snags you come to, gently ease them out, and you can also kind of pull the hair apart a little bit to remove these knots.
"Keep doing that. You can add more conditioner if needed. Once you feel there's quite a lot of slip, or a nice amount of slip to the hair, and all of those larger tangles are removed, you should then get a wide-tooth comb, and starting at your ends, just very gently swipe the conditioner up to your mid-lengths.
"Detangle like that all over, and then rinse. The aim is to have any tangles removed when you get out of the shower so that your hair feels silky before you're towel drying it."
5. Dry it with a specific towel"Lastly, and preferably using a microfibre towel, gently towel dry your hair," Anabel shared.
You should "gently squeeze your hair to rid it of excess water".
