Tesla CEO Elon Musk has made a startling new prediction regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI).
According to foreign media reports, Musk believes that by next year, 2026, AI will become more intelligent than an average human being. Musk further stated that by 2030, AI will surpass the collective intelligence of all humans and become the smartest entity on Earth.
This prediction aligns with earlier warnings by experts who suggested that AI would soon outpace human intelligence. Some analysts have even expressed fears that AI could eventually take control away from humans.
Rapid evolution of AI
In recent years, AI has developed at an unprecedented pace. Almost every major tech company is now engaged in building its own AI models competing fiercely to get ahead of one another.
Although Musk did not detail the specific factors behind his forecast, many believe that advancements in Agentic AI and Physical AI are driving his concerns as these technologies could pose significant challenges for humanity in the near future.

Google’s Chief Scientist Jeff Dean recently stated that several cutting-edge AI models have already reached a stage where they can outperform humans in certain non-physical tasks.
Back in 2020, Musk had also predicted that AI would surpass human intelligence within five years, a claim that has not fully materialized yet. Similarly, a 2017 MIT study estimated that there was a 50% chance machines would achieve human-level intelligence within the next 45 years.
