New Delhi: Martin Zubimendi scored a brace, while Gyokeres also netted as Arsenal beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, September 13.

The midfielder, who joined the Gunners from Real Sociedad in the summer, made his presence felt in the home game, while fellow new signings Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze shone as well.

Nottingham Forest arrived at Emirates Stadium having never won a game, and Ange Postecoglou’s men failed to change the stat as the Gunners controlled proceedings throughout and quickly stamped their authority on the game.

Arsenal dominated the first half by creating several chances through set-pieces, which caused Forest problems. The Gunners got their first big chance to score when a Martin Odegaard free-kick was nodded down to Mikel Merino, who was denied by the goalkeeper Matz Sels.

For the third consecutive game, Arsenal made an early substitution in the game as Martin Odegaard limped off injured. Zubimendi opened the scoring in the 32nd minute of the match with a brilliant volley, which went past Sels.

Arsenal needed a response after a frustrating 1-0 defeat to title rivals Liverpool. The Gunners have invested heavily to strengthen their attack, and their new signings have led from the front.

Madueke was sensational on the right wing, and Eze was handed his first start in the Premier League after a brief cameo at Anfield. He took advantage of some static Forest defending to provide a brilliant assist to Gyokeres, who levelled with Manchester City’s striker Erling Haaland in the first position on the scoring chart by netting three in the ongoing Premier League season.

Cristhian Mosquera also made his first start of the season in the absence of Saliba and was a contender for Player of the Match. He made a brilliant goal-saving challenge on Callum Hudson-Odoi to deny Forest.

Zubimendi completed his brace in the 79th minute of the match as Leandro Trossard clipped a dangerous cross into the box and the midfielder nipped in and perfectly headed into the top corner to give the Gunners a 3-0 lead.

Arsenal next take on Athletic Club in their opening Champions League fixture at Athletic Bilbao on Tuesday before hosting Manchester City next weekend in the Premier League, while Nottingham Forest will next face Swansea City in the Carabao Cup on Thursday.
