Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has revealed his ambition is to guide Jadon Sancho back into England's international set-up following his deadline day arrival from Manchester United. Sancho made it clear to the Red Devils at the start of the summer that he wanted another departure from Old Trafford this campaign.

The winger was anticipated to secure a permanent switch to Chelsea early in the window, but that move collapsed. The Blues couldn't agree personal terms with Sancho and were compelled to hand United a £5million compensation fee for withdrawing from the deal. AS Roma were strongly touted as suitors for the 25-year-old but failed to make a formal approach.

Yet on transfer deadline day, the Red Devils presented him to Villa and the move was sealed. The season-long loan contains no buy option at its conclusion as Sancho's Old Trafford deal runs out at the campaign's end.

Before Villa's journey to Everton this weekend, Emery confirmed his priority was nurturing Sancho back into the talent capable of representing his country ahead of next summer's World Cup.

"Yes, of course, this is my objective, to get him back to his best - and if he does that then he'll come back to the national team," Emery declared at his press conference.

"Every player wants to be part of the national team. When he was in Borussia Dortmund, he performed fantastic. And he played with the national team 25 matches, more or less. Of course, he's still young.

"He's still being hungry to show his capacity to play with his skills, his qualities, and hopefully we can exploit here, again, his best."

It has been four years since Sancho last donned the England jersey. His most recent call-up under Gareth Southgate was for the World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary. Sancho delivered two assists against the former, helping the Three Lions to a resounding 5-0 triumph.

While Sancho is not anticipated to be in the starting line-up for Villa this weekend, he could find himself on the bench for the West Midlands club's inaugural visit to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
