The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has made a major change about UPI transactions, which has come into force today, ie from 15 September 2025. This new rule will directly affect your daily transactions. Therefore, it is very important for you to understand these changes well before sending money to someone. What was the old rule? So far, you could normally do transactions up to a maximum of Rs 1 lakh a day from any UPI app. This limit was applicable to almost all types of general transactions. What is the new change and why this happened? Given the increasing online fraud and fraud cases, NPCI and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) have taken this step to make UPI payments even more secure. Now, a daily limit of Rs 1 lakh will be implemented more strictly and some changes have been made. This decision has been taken keeping in mind your and our security. With the limit fixed, even if there is a fraud or untoward, the economic loss in a day can be reduced. Will the big payment be completely closed? NPCI has made it clear that the limit of UPI transaction for payment at essential places like hospitals and educational institutions will remain up to Rs 5 lakh per day.
