Mirror | September 16, 2025 6:39 AM CST

The second season of highly rated crime drama High Potential is finally here, following its exciting finale earlier this year.

Its final episode ended in a dramatic double cliffhanger. This left fans with two huge questions that they hope the new season will be set to answer when it finally debuts.

In a big change from the streamer, UK fans will only have to wait 24 hours for new instalments after they are aired in the US. Previously they faced several months before catching up themselves.

High Potential season two will start on Wednesday, September 17, with new episodes expected to land on a weekly basis. But what happened in season one? And what do viewers need reminders of ahead of the brand new season?

What is High Potential about?

For those that need a reminder or who are just catching up, High Potential is a procedural drama about Morgan, a brilliant but unconventional single mother of three who begins as a cleaner at the LAPD. After solving a murder case by rearranging evidence during her night shift, she forms an unlikely but effective partnership with a methodical detective, Adam Karadec, blending her intuitive problem-solving with his by-the-book approach to tackle challenging cases.

Being a procedural, usually each episode concerns a separate case with it being wrapped up neatly each week. Although there are a couple of exceptions.

Who is High Potential season one's big villain?

While most cases are solved in an episode, there is one pretty big exception. Morgan and the team end up finding themselves going up against a criminal calling himself The Game Master.

This person is behind a series of kidnappings, with all victims placed in life threatening situations. He taunts Morgan and the police by giving them puzzles to complete to discover their locations, challenging them to rescue them in time.

While they succeed, including saving one of their own, The Game Master remains on the loose and a dangerous prospect. In the season one finale, Morgan, with her children are approached by a stranger. It's later revealed he slipped a deck of cards in her bag with a sinister message on them.

It says: "You're the one, Morgan. We shall play again. Me and you." So who is The Game Master really?

What happened to Morgan's husband Roman?

The second season one cliffhanger concerned Morgan's first husband. While her most recent ex is still very much in her life, regularly helping out with childcare, her first disappeared mysteriously without a trace when her eldest was still just a baby.

One of the reasons Morgan accepts the offer to help the police is so they will reopen their investigation into what happened to Roman. This despite authorities presuming he's dead.

Well, in the season one finale, it is revealed that Roman is still very much alive. Not only that but he was working as an FBI informant. There are still so many questions to answer surrounding what happened to him but fans were left being told that Karadec knows where to start looking.

High Potential season two is streaming on Disney+ from September 17.
