ACS officer Nupur Bora, who joined civil service just 6 years ago, arrested with Rs 2 crore cash, Rs 1 crore gold

Assam Civil Service officer Nupur Bora has been arrested following the discovery of disproportionate assets, including Rs 2 crore in cash and gold worth Rs 1 crore, from her residences. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that Bora was under surveillance for six months due to alleged involvement in irregular land transactions.

Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer Nupur Bora has been arrested after police and vigilance officials recovered unaccounted assets from her homes in Guwahati and Barpeta. Officials said Rs 2 crore in cash and gold worth Rs 1 crore were seized during the raids. Another raid was also carried out at her rented residence in Barpeta as part of the probe, as per an IANS report.

Nupur Bora under watch for six months

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that Bora had been under surveillance for the last six months. He linked the monitoring to her alleged role in irregular land transactions.

“This officer had transferred Hindu land to suspicious individuals in exchange for money when she was posted in the Barpeta revenue circle,” he said. The Chief Minister added, “We have taken strict action against her.”


He further said corruption in land-related matters has been a recurring issue in revenue circles, especially in minority-dominated areas.

Who is Nupur Bora?

Bora, 36, joined the Assam Civil Service in 2019. She was born on March 31, 1989, in Golaghat district.

She completed her BA in English Literature from Guwahati University and studied earlier at Cotton College. Before joining the civil service, she worked as a lecturer at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), according to her Facebook profile.

Her administrative career began in March 2019 as Assistant Commissioner in Karbi Anglong, where she served until June 2023. Later, she was posted as Circle Officer in Barpeta and was transferred to Kamrup after that.

In a related action, vigilance officials raided the residence of Lat Mandal Surajit Deka, who works at the Revenue Circle Office in Barpeta. He is known to be a close aide of Bora.
