Bollywood actress Amisha Patel who made a sensational debut with Hrithik Roshan in Kaho Naa Pyar Hai recently spoke about the challenges she has faced as an outsider in the film industry. In an interview with Zoom she revealed that her refusal to flatter anyone has caused jealousy among some industry insiders. Amisha candidly stated that she has faced struggles like many outsiders and that some people in the industry don’t particularly like her. “But I don’t care about anyone. I follow my principles” she said. “I don’t flatter anyone” - what does Amisha mean? She elaborated on her approach saying “The most important thing is that your audience loves you. It doesnt matter which camp you come from. But yes I am not a part of any one group I dont drink I dont smoke nor do I flatter anyone for work. I only do work that is based on my merit. Thats why some people dont like me.” Her words highlight her determination to maintain integrity in an industry where networking and alliances often influence opportunities. Was Amisha Patel the first choice for Kaho Naa Pyar Hai? Interestingly Amisha revealed that she was not Rakesh Roshan’s initial choice for his son Hrithik Roshan’s debut film. Kaho Naa Pyar Hai was originally intended to launch Kareena Kapoor but after Kareena declined Amisha got the opportunity. Her performance in the film turned her into an overnight sensation proving her talent and resilience in the competitive world of Bollywood. How has being an outsider affected her journey? Amisha also spoke about the difficulties of surviving alone in the industry. She noted that actors without a partner in Bollywood often face more challenges due to a lack of support. “If you do not have a boyfriend or husband in the industry then you have to struggle a lot. You do not have people with you who support you. If you are an outsider then some people do not support you anyway” she said. Her statements shed light on the reality for many actors who are not from established film families emphasising the importance of self-belief and persistence. Amisha Patel’s candid remarks underline her commitment to merit and principles even in the face of jealousy and industry politics. From nearly missing out on her debut to becoming a recognised name in Bollywood her journey remains inspiring for outsiders trying to make their mark.
