In the digital age, online reviews have become an important basis for shopping, hotel booking and credibility of services. But cyber criminals have also made Google Review a weapon of cheating. Thug itself Google Or by saying the representative of a service company, lure people a cashback, gift voucher or huge discount. As soon as the victim gets trapped in their net, his bank accounts become empty in minutes.
How does this fraud work
Thugs call themselves as Google or an employee of a service company through phone or message. They claim that-
- “On giving a good review of a shop or restaurant, you will get a cashback or gift voucher.”
- “Putting a positive review will give a chance to reward or earn additional earnings.”
They then ask the victim to click on a link, download the app or share bank/UPI details. As soon as the person clicks on the link or gives information, the thugs blow money from his bank account. People easily trust Google’s name, which is the biggest weapon of criminals. Ministry of Home Ministry Cyber Security Portal Cyberdost Has issued a warning regarding this fraud.
Follow these steps for rescue
- Be careful: Google or any company never guarantees a cashback or gift in exchange for a review. Look at such calls or messages immediately.
- Stay away from unknown links: Do not click on any unknown link and avoid installing third party apps.
- Do not share bank details: Never tell anyone OTP, UPI PIN, card number or password.
- Confirm the offer: If a scheme looks real, then go to Google’s official website or customer support and check it.
What to do if you are cheated
- Immediately call the helpline of your bank or UPI app and get the transactions blocked.
- Cybercrime portal (cybercrime.gov.in) Or file a complaint at the nearest police station.
- Keep all the evidence safe like call recording, messages, screenshots and transaction details.
- Keep a constant watch on your account till the bank and police action is completed.
