A Yorkshire couple renovating their property were left "gobsmacked" after discovering a "hidden feature" concealed behind a wall in their home. Many people fantasise about transforming their house into a space that matches their perfect vision, but embarking on a renovation journey is a major decision.

House renovations can prove to be a demanding, chaotic and costly undertaking, yet once completed, most homeowners who've endured the process insist it's absolutely worthwhile. Many people opt to chronicle their property's transformation on social media.

One couple, hailing from Leeds in West Yorkshire, secured a house that had remained "derelict" for five years prior to their acquisition, and they're currently working to turn it into their dream forever home.

The duo were left astounded after removing what appeared to be a fireplace covering, only to discover what could very well be an AGA concealed behind it.

They documented their find on camera and posted it on TikTok, where the clip has accumulated over 1.6 million views so far.

In the footage, the man can be observed wielding a claw hammer to prise the covering away from the wall.

Providing commentary, the woman says: "This is going to be the biggest hidden feature."

As the flimsy panel separates from the wall to expose the cream heating appliance lurking underneath, the man responds with shocked delight, simply saying, "ooh."

The woman then enthusiastically says: "It's an AGA!"

In the caption accompanying the clip, the couple wrote: "Not what we thought, really thought it would be a capped [off] fireplace".

In the comments section, people were eager to share their thoughts. One person said: "Please make it a feature".

Another agreed: "Omg that'd be amazing if you can get it up and running again".

A third commented: "Lucky find. I hope you keep it and get it working. I'd love one in mine".

Yet another person said: "That's a proper antique cooking range you have here".

While someone else implored: "Update us with what you're doing with it!! Be nice to see if fully working after all those years hidden".

Another shared: "I bought a house built in 1881. Lifted up the carpet and found a parquet flooring in two rooms. Still had its original bee's wax on it."

The couple responded: "Oh wow.. we just might find something similar...here's hoping".

Another person warned: "Get it checked for asbestos if you're keeping it better to be safe! Good find though".

In response to many people's confusion over the purpose of an AGA, one TikTok user clarified: "So many people are confused in the comments, it's a basic cast iron oven, heated by whatever you put in the adjoining firepit. I grew up with this being used whenever the power went out, usually thanks to one of the farmers putting their tractor through the cables.

"Depending on condition/size/type, these can go for a pretty penny. Beautiful find, ours got replaced a few years ago".

In a follow-up comment, the pair revealed they "were" and remain "still gobsmacked" by their find, although they haven't yet decided what to do next with it.
