Heavy Rain Causes Major Disruptions in Bilaspur
DHARAMSHALA: Intense rainfall overnight led to significant disruptions in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, on Wednesday, with extensive damage reported across various areas.
Key locations in Bilaspur, such as Cinema Colony and the central market, experienced severe flooding, transforming roads into rivers. Shops around Chetna Chowk, Champa Park, and the bus stand were inundated, resulting in considerable financial losses for local businesses and residents.
Landslides Block Highways, Buses Stranded
Numerous landslides have impacted the district, particularly near the Bagchhal bridge and Samletu along the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane highway, significantly hindering traffic flow.
Several buses operated by the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) became trapped in landslide debris in Rishikesh (Bilaspur), prompting authorities to initiate rescue and road-clearing operations. Commuters are advised to seek alternative routes until the roads are cleared.
Road Closures and Damage Reports
As reported by the State Disaster Management Authority, 566 roads, including two national highways, were closed as of Thursday morning (September 18, 2025). Additionally, 525 power transformers and 281 water supply systems have been affected.
Districts such as Kullu (155 roads), Mandi (203), Shimla (50), and Bilaspur (24) have faced the most severe impacts. Since the monsoon began on June 20, the state has incurred property losses totaling Rs 4,595 crore, with 419 fatalities and 45 individuals still unaccounted for.
Weather Forecast for Himachal Pradesh
The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has forecasted ongoing rainfall in parts of Himachal Pradesh until September 24, although a decrease in intensity is anticipated starting September 19. Naina Devi in Bilaspur recorded 140.8 mm of rain last night, while Bilaspur itself received 122.8 mm.
