
8th Pay Commission Big Update: Its been a long time since the central government employees have been waiting for the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission. Their hopes strengthened in January this year when the government announced the formation of the 8th Pay Commission but neither the committee nor the notification regarding its implementation has been issued further irritating the employees. 8th Pay Commission Update: Will Government Employees Get Salary Hike Before Diwali? As per several reports the government is expected to decide central government employees’ salaries using the fitment factor. Meanwhile there is also speculation about changes to Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) - the main healthcare support for these employees. What Changes Are Expected? There are talks about replacing the CGHS scheme with a new insurance-based scheme. As per several media reports the central government may abolish the current CGHS introducing a new health program which will be based on the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission. However this is not the first time that discussion are underway to replace the health scheme. In 5th 6th and 7th pay commissions recommendations were made to replace the CGHS with other schemes. This time too changes are expected. Its worth noting that the government has not yet made any official announcements. HIGHLIGHTS Central government employees are still waiting for 8th Pay Commission recommendations. Reports suggest salaries may be revised using the fitment factor. Government may replace CGHS with an insurance-based program. Recent CGHS reforms include linking with Ayushman Bharat Health Account automatic card issuance easier referrals and lower pensioner age limits. Has Any Changes Made In CGHS? During the 7th Pay Commission several changes were made in the CGHS. For instance – the authorities are putting efforts into linking the health scheme with Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA). Employees whose salaries are deducted for CGHS contributions are now automatically issued cards. Changes such as providing treatment without referral in government hospitals consultation with three specialists on a single referral in private hospitals and lowering the age limit of the pensioners to 70. Because of these recent reforms the access to healthcare for employees and pensioners have been eased. Implementation Expected Around 2026 The 8th Pay Commission is expected to be implemented around 2026 Jagran reported instead of being postponed to 2027. Last month members of GENC held a meeting with with Union Minister Jitendra Singh to raise their requests. Singh indicated that the issue is currently being discussed with state governments.
