Relief to companies on MRP label of old stock, government made a big announcement

Government's big announcement

The government has given a major relief to companies after changes in GST rates applicable to consumer goods. Now it will not be mandatory for any company to install a revised price i.e. new MRP stickers on packaged products made before September 22, 2025. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has taken this important decision in view of the concerns of industries and business organizations, so that the companies do not have to face trouble.

Old stock will now sell without changing

Earlier, when GST rates were changed, companies had to put new MRP stickers on every old product, causing them to lose both time and money. Now Government Has changed this rule. This means that if a product has been prepared before September 22, 2025 and it is not sold yet, it can be sold with the old MRP. Yes, if a company wants, it can voluntarily put a new price sticker, but it is not necessary.

Price should be clear, not hidden

The ministry has made it clear that if a company puts a new sticker on the old packets, then the information of the old price should be clear and readable. That is, the consumer should know what was the price earlier and what is now. It is very important to maintain this transparency so that the consumer is not confused.

Advertisement imperative in newspapers ends

The first rule was that if a company changes the price of its products, then it had to give information about it by advertising in two newspapers. Now this condition has also been abolished. Instead, companies will only have to give information about new prices to wholesale and retailers. Along with this, this information will also have to be sent to the concerned departments of the government, so that information will remain at every level.

It is necessary to give information from digital platform

The government has asked companies to use all communication mediums including digital, print, social media to give information about new prices. The purpose of this is that the dealer, shopkeepers and consumers can all get the correct information about new prices on time.

Old packing materials possible by 2026

Another major relief is that companies can use old print wrappers or packaging materials until 31 March, 2026 or until the old stock is finished. Provided, if the prices have been changed, then it should be given a new price through stickers, stamps or online printing.

Government has given this It has also been made clear that it is also not mandatory for companies to declare a new price on old packages or packing materials. If they want, they can do this, but there will be no legal obligation.
