The government has completely abolished GST on many essential goods. After the new GST rules to be implemented from 22 September, everything is going to be cheaper, from food and drink to TV, AC, car and bike. After hearing this news, your budget will also breathe a sigh of relief!

It has been decided to remove GST on food items, medicines and some household items, which will reduce their prices drastically. Let us know why the government took this step and what is going to be cheap for you.

Why did the government take this big decision?

On September 3, the GST Council meeting headed by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was flagged off to major changes. Now the GST rates have been simplified. The first four tax slabs (5%, 12%, 18%and 28%) were, but now only two slabs are left – 5%and 18%. The slab of 12% and 28% has been completely removed. The aim of this change is to curb inflation and give relief to the pockets of common people.

What will be cheap?

The government has abolished GST on many important things, which will reduce their prices significantly. Below is the list of some special things, which will now be cheaper:

  • Bread, puffy, chapati: First 5% GST, now 0%
  • Indian bread, paratha: First 18% GST, now 0%
  • Milk (UHT): First 5% GST, now 0%
  • Paneer (pack and label): First 5% GST, now 0%
  • Pizza base bread: First 5% GST, now 0%
  • Eraser, pencil, crayon, chalk: First 12% GST, now 0%
  • Tuition and coaching up to 12th: First 18% GST, now 0%
  • Ordinary paper, exercise book, graph book: First 12% GST, now 0%
  • Vocational training and skill development courses: First 18% GST, now 0%
  • Glass bangles: First 12% GST, now 0%
  • Charitable Hospital and Trust Services: First 12% GST, now 0%
  • Insurance premium (life, health, general): First 18% GST, now 0%
  • Medications (Agalsed Beta, Emigluserez, Aptocog alpha and 33 others): First 5% or 12% GST, now 0%

Special attention on everyday things

The government has completely removed GST on food items like rice, pulses, flour and fresh vegetables. Apart from this, some essential medicines have also been tax-free, which will reduce medical expenses. Household goods such as electrical equipment, solar lights and water filters will also be tax-free. This step has been taken to control inflation and to give relief to the common people.

However, tax on luxury goods and non-essential things will remain the same as before. Millions of people will get a big benefit from this scheme to be implemented from 22 September. So do not delay, note this list and take advantage of cheap prices!
