1. Restraint in diet

Maharaj says that it is mandatory to follow satvic food during the fast. It includes items made of fruits, milk, dry fruits and rock salt. Onion, garlic and tamasic food should be avoided completely. This keeps the purification of the mind and the practice is successful.

2. Control of mind and speech

Not only food, but also restraint on mind and speech is important. Anger should be made distance from anger, bitter words or negative thoughts during fasting. Maharaj said that devotion is meaningful only when the seeker’s mind remains calm and stable.

3. Following of worship and rules

Every day the aarti, chanting and recitation of the Goddess is part of the fast. It is necessary to bathe before sunrise, wear clean clothes and light a lamp in the temple of the house. According to Maharaj, the real fruit of the fast is found only when the devotees worship with full devotion and method.

What things should be avoided during fast

Some special precautions should also be taken during Navratri fast. Maharaj said that should make a complete distance from things like meat, alcohol and intoxication. At the same time, insulting others or causing trouble to someone disturbs the purity of the fast.

He also told that instead of making the fast a show, it should be considered as a medium of self -determination and practice. If a person does not follow the rules and is limited to food only, then his fast is considered incomplete.
