Bhubaneswar: A video circulating online has ignited public outrage after showing passengers in the First AC coach of the Purushottam Express allegedly stealing bedrolls provided by Indian Railways. In the video, the passengers and the railway staff are heard speaking in Odia. The train travels between Puri in Odisha and New Delhi, passing through states such as West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Prades
The clip captures railway staff confronting a family who are seen packing bedsheets and towels into their luggage at a platform. When questioned, the family reportedly said, “It’s a mistake,” as they attempted to justify their actions. A verbal dispute followed between the staff and the family, which drew the attention of other passengers and bystanders.
On social media, users expressed sharp criticism. One user on X posted, “Travelling in 1st AC of Purushottam Express is a matter of pride. Yet some passengers don’t hesitate to steal the bedsheets meant for their comfort.” Another user commented: “Such people are the reason why Indians are abused globally!”
The incident raises concerns for Indian Railways, which is already grappling with issues like overcrowding, cleanliness, and food quality. Now, alleged theft of onboard property by passengers has added to the list of challenges.
