Polling Personnel Mobilized for BTC Elections

Kokrajhar, Sept 21: On Sunday, approximately 4,500 election officials, including presiding and polling officers, departed for their assigned locations throughout Kokrajhar district, transporting ballot materials under security supervision in anticipation of the fifth Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections scheduled for tomorrow.


The district administration of Kokrajhar has implemented comprehensive measures to facilitate the elections, which will encompass 12 constituencies: Fakiragram (Non-ST), Banargaon (ST), Debargaon (ST), Baukhungri (ST), Salakati (ST), Guma (Unreserved), Srirampur (Non-ST), Jomduar (ST), Saraibil (ST), Kachugaon (ST), Dotma (ST), and Parbatjhora (ST).


To ensure a seamless voting experience, a total of 942 polling stations have been established. Official sources indicate that ballot boxes were inspected and distributed early this morning from the Basic Training Centre in Kokrajhar.


Polling teams are fully equipped with all essential materials, and sufficient security personnel have been assigned to uphold law and order at each polling station.


Kokrajhar district boasts 700,951 registered voters, including 350,412 women. More than seven lakh voters are anticipated to participate in the election, with 100 candidates vying for positions across the 12 constituencies. Voting will occur from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.


In the broader Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), a total of 2,658,136 voters, including 1,334,600 women, will cast their votes at 3,359 polling stations. A total of 316 candidates are competing for the 40 BTC constituencies.


The BTC elections are crucial for Assam's political framework, as the council holds significant authority in governing the region under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.


The results will not only shape the 40-member council's composition but also influence governance, development, and ethnic harmony in the region.


With various parties and independent candidates participating, the elections are expected to be fiercely contested, reflecting the hopes and concerns of the diverse communities within the BTR.


Vote counting for this pivotal election is set for September 26.
