The Chongqing East Station in China occupies an area of 1.22 million square meters. The station is impressive not only in terms of its sheer size. It has 3 yards 15 platforms and 29 railway tracks and it is four stories high! At peak hours it is capable of handling 16000 passengers every hour and is one of the most important high-speed railway stations in China. The station has luxury amenities that rival any commercial airport. Passengers can use digital boards multi-lingual help services and high-speed Wi-Fi and relax in comfortable chairs with charging stations secure lockers and wheelchair access. What makes Chongqing East Station unique is the design. With high-tech features giant pillars conventional air-conditioned halls and a layout based on the camellia flower the station is beautiful inside and out while being eco-friendly. Large glass panes in the roof create a bright airy feeling and fill the interior space with natural light. Chongqing East Station serves as a major hub in China’s high-speed rail network. Through this route China’s bullet trains run to main destinations such as Beijing Shanghai Shenzhen and Guangzhou. The title of the world’s largest railway station was previously held by New York’s Grand Central Terminal which has 44 platforms and 67 tracks including two underground levels. 41 of these tracks are on the upper level and 26 tracks are on the lower level. A special feature of the Grand Central Terminal is its secret platform for operating flexibility. Grand Central Terminal is located in New York City and was opened between 1903 and 1913. It accommodates 44 trains in the station at the same time and is a prominent piece of early 20th-century railway architecture.
