Navratri 2025 Day 1 Bhog Ideas: The nine days of Navratri begin with the worship of Goddess Shailputri, the first form of Goddess Durga. According to mythological beliefs, Goddess Shailputri is very fond of ghee and ghee-based dishes. It is said that offering ghee to the Goddess on the first day bestows good health and positive energy. Therefore, devotees offer ghee-based dishes to the Goddess on this auspicious occasion.

If you're looking for something light, tasty, and suitable for preparing a vegetarian dish during fasting, Ghee-based Aloo Halwa is a good option. It's not only suitable for fasting but also pleasing to the Goddess. Let's explore the simple recipe for this special dish, which you can prepare with great devotion on the first day of Navratri.

Ingredients for Ghee Potato Halwa
Boiled potatoes – 4 medium-sized
Desi ghee – 4-5 tablespoons
Sugar – 1/2 cup
Cardamom powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Cashews, almonds, raisins
Water or milk – 1/4 cup

Method

To make potato halwa, first wash the potatoes and bring them to a boil. Once the potatoes are fully boiled, peel them and mash them thoroughly to avoid lumps. If desired, you can grate the potatoes.

Now, take a heavy-bottomed pan and add desi ghee. Once the ghee is hot, add the mashed potatoes and fry over medium heat. Stir constantly, otherwise they will stick to the bottom.

When the potatoes turn golden and begin to release ghee, add sugar and cardamom powder. Adding sugar will create a syrup.

Now, add milk as needed. Finally, fry cashews, raisins, and almonds in ghee and mix them into the halwa. The halwa is ready. Now you can offer it to Goddess Shailputri.
