The second game of the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2025 was an ill-tempered affair between arch-rivals India and Pakistan. The tournament is being held after a bitter border conflict between the Asian rivals after India carried out ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to deadly Pahalgam terrorist attack which led to loss of 26 lives earlier this year. Suryakumar Yadav and Team India made it a point not to shake hands with the Pakistan cricketers after their Group A league stage match last week. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) were irate that ICC match referee allowed the ‘handshake row’ to happen and were on the verge of pulling out of the remaining tournament ahead of their final league match against UAE. On Sunday in the Super 4 match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium there was no love lost between India and Pakistan. Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan added fuel to fire with his ‘gun-totting celebration’ after completing his fifty with a six off India’s Axar Patel. Farhan’s celebration went viral on social media with many fans calling out his insensitivity. I do not do a lot of celebrations after scoring 50. But it suddenly came to my mind that lets do a celebration today. I did that. I dont know how people will take it. I don’t care about that” Farhan told reporters after the match. “And the rest you know you should play aggressive cricket wherever you play. It is not necessary that it is India. You should play aggressive cricket against every team like we played today” he added. Farhan notched up 58 off 45 balls in the match with three sixes to help Pakistan post 171 for 5 in 20 overs but India overhauled the target in the penultimate over of their run chase after Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill’s scintillating century opening partnership on Sunday. Farhan admitted that he would have been happier if Pakistan had managed to win the match. “If I had won this match it would have been very important for me. And yes performing against India you know people highly rate it. So I think if we had won it would have been very good” he said. Pakistan are now in a must-win situation against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday but Farhan is confident that they can still make the final on September 28. “I think the way we played (against India) the way we batted the boys are very confident. And regarding Sri Lanka we will win the match. Because it is a do-or-die match. Preparation is excellent. I think all the boys wish that we will meet them (India) in the finals” he added.
