His win drew widespread attention from Russian media outlets including Ria Novosti, Kingdomand Level. People’s Artist Igor Matvienko, one of the judges, praised Phuc’s performance as “excellent,” noting its modern, dramatic, and engaging presentation, complemented by traditional Vietnamese costumes and a compelling portrayal of national heritage.
Rossiyskaya Gazeta highlighted the singer’s impressive vocal range and passionate delivery. Columnist Alexander Alekseev wrote: “His performance was unique, from incorporating melodies inspired by national traditions to the thoughtful costume choice. Everything reflected the vibrant colors and beauty of Vietnamese culture.”
Following the competition, Phuc told reporters that his chances were helped by the gracious gesture of Russia’s contestant Shaman, who declined to be scored to give other participants a better chance, according to Kingdom. Phuc praised Shaman’s performance and expressed admiration for his style.
The singer also announced plans to donate part of his prize to charity in Russia. He intends to study Russian, compose a song in the language, and collaborate with local artists.
Social media audiences lauded Phuc’s performance, with comments such as: “His performance was amazing; the song is beautiful. This was a refreshing moment in modern music,” and “The song conveys Vietnam’s spirit, culture, and pride to the world. Duc Phuc’s powerful voice and sincere delivery make this performance unforgettable.”
In the final rankings, Kyrgyzstan’s Nomad Trio finished second with 373 points for “Zhalgyz Saga” (Only for You), blending traditional Kyrgyz elements with modern arrangements. Dana Al Meer from Qatar placed third with “Huwa Dha Anta” (It is You), leaving a strong impression on judges and audiences alike.
The Intervision Song Contest, originally organized by the International Radio and Television Organization, was held in Czechoslovakia from 1965 to 1968 and later revived in Sopot, Poland, from 1977 to 1980. After a hiatus of over 40 years, the competition now attracts participants from countries including Cuba, Kyrgyzstan, China, Egypt, the U.S., Kenya, Kazakhstan, UAE, Russia, Brazil, Tajikistan, Qatar, Madagascar, Saudi Arabia, Colombia, Ethiopia, Venezuela, Serbia, South Africa, Vietnam, Belarus, and Uzbekistan. Saudi Arabia will host next year.
Phuc, 28, was invited by Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to compete. He first rose to prominence in 2015 as the winner of “The Voice of Vietnam” and has since delivered numerous hits, known for his emotional ballads and compelling performances.
