Mohanlal Begins Work on Drishyam 3
Kochi: As he prepares to receive the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, renowned Malayalam actor Mohanlal has officially started production on the highly awaited film Drishyam 3, the latest installment in the popular Drishyam series.
The film's launch was marked by a traditional puja ceremony at a law college near Kochi on Monday.
Following the ceremony, Mohanlal is set to travel to New Delhi, where he will be honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award by the President of India on Tuesday, a significant milestone in his illustrious career spanning over forty years.
Director Jeethu Joseph shared insights with the media prior to the film's launch, indicating that Drishyam 3 will delve into the next phase of Georgekutty's life, the beloved character portrayed by Mohanlal.
Joseph elaborated, "The narrative will focus on the developments in Georgekutty's life after a span of four and a half years, which forms the essence of the story."
Producer Antony Perumbavoor, who has collaborated with Mohanlal for many years and played a crucial role in the success of the Drishyam franchise, mentioned that the decision to create a third film followed extensive discussions.
"The overwhelming response to the first two films assured us that Georgekutty's story still had more to unfold. It was only after thorough discussions with Jeethu that we decided on this new version," Perumbavoor remarked.
The Drishyam series has gained a cult following in Indian cinema, celebrated for its compelling storytelling, intricate suspense, and Mohanlal's outstanding performances.
The original film debuted in 2013, setting new standards in Malayalam cinema, while its sequel, released in 2021, achieved record-breaking viewership in theaters and on streaming platforms.
Producers have announced that Drishyam 3 is expected to hit theaters in March 2026, with anticipation already building among fans both in India and internationally.
With Mohanlal also being honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the launch of Drishyam 3 has further amplified the celebrations for one of Malayalam cinema's most iconic figures.
