Bhawanipatna: A 35-year-old man and his 10-year-old son died while his wife and 12-year-old daughter were critically injured when a speeding pickup van struck their motorcycle near Deheli village under Narla police limits in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Budha Barik and his son, Arab, from Terlo village.
According to sources, the accident took place at around 9.30 am. The father-son duo died on the spot. The injured were rushed to Narla Community Health Centre and later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital as their condition worsened.
Following the incident, grieving family members and locals blocked the state highway, connecting Bhawanipatna with M Rampur, by placing the bodies on the road. They demanded adequate compensation for the bereaved family and swift justice. Police forces were soon deployed at the spot to maintain law and order. The blockade could be cleared after an hour.
“We have detained the pickup van driver. The driver and vehicle are from Andhra Pradesh,” said IIC of Narla police station Bijayraj Majhi,.
