Dharma Productions Acquires Remake Rights
Dharma Productions, led by Karan Johar, is set to remake the record-setting Odia film Bou Buttu Bhuta (2025). This development was officially announced through a public notice in the magazine Film Information by Rakhee Bajpai Tiwari, the Chief Legal Officer at Dharma Productions Private Limited.
The acquisition encompasses all Indian and international languages, along with derivative rights. The notice also specified that Babushaan Films Private Limited holds exclusive ownership of all intellectual property associated with Bou Buttu Bhuta, ensuring that the rights are free from any encumbrances or claims from third parties.
Parties interested in claiming rights have been advised to do so within 15 days of the notice to avoid forfeiting any entitlements.
Bou Buttu Bhuta, which premiered on June 12, has achieved the status of the highest-grossing Odia film ever. The film features prominent actors Babushaan Mohanty, Archita Sahu, and Aparajita Mohanty in leading roles.
Despite facing tough competition from films such as Housefull 5 and Sitaare Zameen Par, it has successfully garnered approximately Rs 14–15 crore at the box office.
