Ally McCoist believes unemployed Sean Dyche will soon return to the dugout - and confesses he's caught wind of whispers linking him with Rangers. This comes amid mounting pressure on Russell Martin following a dismal start to the campaign at Ibrox.

It's been a wretched season for Rangers, who are yet to claim a Premiership victory whilst languishing in 11th position. This follows the Glasgow giants' embarrassing Champions League exit after suffering a humiliating 9-1 aggregate thrashing at the hands of Club Brugge. There was some respite for the former Southampton chief as he booked a Premier Sports Cup semi-final berth by overcoming Hibs last week.

However, the discussion was overshadowed by supporter demonstrations before and throughout the match - with fans calling for managerial change whilst CEO Patrick Stewart also encountered fierce backlash.

Martin has an opportunity to gather pace on Thursday evening in the Europa League as Genk visit Govan - though bookmakers have already installed Dyche as the frontrunner to succeed the manager.

The seasoned Englishman has remained without a club since departing Everton in January, and when quizzed by Alan Brazil on the talkSPORT Breakfast Show about Dyche "not being back in yet" following his Toffees exit, McCoist responded: "I think it's only a matter of time, you not think so?"

"He'll get back in. He was actually getting mentioned for the Rangers job as well. He'll get back in soon."

Brazil then questioned whether the embattled Martin had "extricated himself from a tight spot" if he could secure a win over Hibs and follow it up with a victory in the Europa League against Genk.

The Ibrox legend continued: "I think they played a lot better on Saturday. I think they got a bit of a break with the disallowed Hibs goal, but they balanced that up with two or three decisions that went against them (in the defeat to Hearts). I thought they played a lot better."

The host enquired: "Have you met Russell yet?" To which McCoist replied: "Very briefly." Celtic fanatic Brazil chimed in: "He must be having sleepless nights?" The Rangers' favourite retorted: "Absolutely. It's not good and it's not nice, but it kind of goes with the territory if you're not winning, to be fair, sadly."
