Pakistani singer and songwriter Hassan Rahim recently shared insights into his wedding, which went viral across social media, captivating audiences in Pakistan and beyond. Known for his distinctive fusion of rock and pop music, Hassan has become especially popular with Gen Z for his relatable lyrics and modern melodies. Some of his notable tracks include Aisay Kaisay, Joona, Wishes, Maand, and Peechay Hutt, the latter featured in Coke Studio and the Ms. Marvel series.
In an interview with BBC UK journalist Haroon Rashid, Hassan Rahim reflected on how his wedding introduced Gilgit-Baltistan’s rich traditions to a wider audience. He highlighted the cultural significance of his attire, saying, “Our wedding gave a crash course on Gilgit-Baltistan’s wedding traditions to all of Pakistan—and honestly, to the whole world. I wore the Shuqa, a traditional jacket passed down from my grandfather, and my pakol cap with its distinctive feather called shati.”
Hassan also spoke about the public reaction to his wedding dance. “I didn’t expect people to like it. Our dance is usually for a niche audience, so I was unsure how it would be received. But people loved it. That was the fun part. I even joked with friends that if music didn’t work out, we could do this professionally,” he said.
Responding to criticism about publicly showing affection toward his wife, Hassan said he ignored negative opinions and focused on his happiness. “I was just too happy and wanted to express it. Our wedding week was one of the best weeks of my life. It was never meant to be showcased publicly, but my mom suggested we let it be. I agreed, knowing our family would have been upset otherwise,” he added.
