Sir Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, has listed 12 reasons why London is the "greatest city in the world", but critics claim none of them have anything to do with him.

In a post on socal media, the Mayor claimed London had 'world-leading' nightlife, despite more than 3,000 night life venues closing their doors since he came into office.

He also claimed that London was regularly voted the "#1 city in the world" and listed London's diversity, finance, tech and life sciences as well as museums, galleries and premier league clubs as reasons.

But the tweet drew attention on X, with Simon Jordan an author and film producer who once owned Crystal Palace F.C saying that "whilst some of these points are positive indicators, none of them have anything to do with this mayors term in office in fact they are in spite of it."

He added that "some of its ideological tripe, a place for everyone unless of course you are concerned about the direction of travel and the values of this country."

Another user claimed the mayor was "tone deaf to knife crime, criminality and views of other".

Mr Khans comments on 'world-leading nightlife' drew particular heat with one user saying: "World-leading nightlife? In what world?! I remember getting the Metro 20yrs ago on a Thursday and in the middle pages would be all the clubs, gigs and events happening in the next 7 days. Precious few of those venues remain. I suspect even less operating every night of the week."

Another user claimed that at 14 she had been "perfectly safe walking around Camden by ourselves" but by 18 "a man tried grabbing me off the street in Romford from that same group."

She claimed to avoid London "like the plague".

The comments come after US President Donald Trump said that Sadiq Khan was a "terrible, terrible mayor" and falsely suggeted the Mayor wanted to bring in Sharia Law.

Mr Khans spokesperson dismissed the claims saying they would not "dignify his appalling and bigoted comments with a response".

The President and the Mayor have a turbulent relationship, with the President last week taking aim at the Mayor during his state visit.

Their dispute has run since Trump became President, with Khan often attacking him on social media and accusing him of fuelling division and the 'far right'.

Trump has often hit back, frequently saying the Mayor is "terrible", inlcuding attacking Mr Khan at the State visit, which forced Sir Kier Starmer to intervene on the Mayors behalf.

He even claimed that he had 'banned' the Mayor from attending the state banquet, a claim the Mayor denied.
